Wood Stabilizing Solutions represents a premium, professional-grade, heat-cured resin meticulously designed for the stabilization and fortification of wood and other porous materials. It finds exemplary utility in applications such as knife handle crafting, where its advanced formulation ensures unparalleled performance and durability.

This resin formulation boasts a non-toxic, non-flammable, and solvent-free composition, resulting in a remarkable 99.99% weight-based conversion from liquid to solid upon curing. Its exceptional characteristics elevate it above conventional home stabilizing solutions. Particularly proficient with the delicate nuances of exquisite, punky, and spalted woods, it addresses the challenges posed by their inherent softness, offering an unparalleled solution for professional applications.

Shipped unactivated resin with the activator in a separate pack. Activated Stabilizing Resin has a shelf life of 8-12 months.

Steps:

  1. Wood must be thoroughly dried (moisture content below 10%, preferably 0%).
  2. Place the wood blocks into a vacuum chamber and weigh them down.
  3. Introduce the stabilizing solution, ensuring complete coverage of the wood blocks.
  4. Evacuate the air until all bubbles are entirely eliminated.
  5. Open the vacuum chamber and immerse the wood for a duration twice as long as the vacuum process.
  6. If necessary, a pressure pot can be used for enhanced results.
  7. Remove the wood blocks and wrap them securely in aluminum foil.
  8. Place the wrapped blocks into an oven set at a temperature between 120-130°C, with the duration varying based on the size of the wood blocks (60-120 minutes).
  9. Retrieve the wood blocks from the oven and allow them to cool to room temperature before use.

Was pleased with the stabilising results on a batch of Totora wood blocks that were averaging 55 grams before treatment after being bought down to 0% moisture content. After a few days in the vacuum chamber, a few more days in the pressure pot then alfoil wrapped baking the resultant weight was 160 grams, showing an excellent take-up of the resin for complete penetration for perfect stabilisation.
